I sat down with a very talented man today, who has quite the interesting and unique life story. Don't let that turn you away, though! While his tale is quite unique, there are many relatable aspects that make this episode super valuable and impactful.

A U.S. Marine veteran, a champion boxer, a black belt, a father, a husband, an author, a podcaster, and an entrepreneur of multiple business over the course of several decades, Richard Walsh now runs Sharpen the Spear Coaching, where he helps other businesses, startups, and business owners.

We start by getting into Richard's life story, starting with the Marines. He moves on to tell us about his transition out of the military, giving us advice for modern active duty members transitioning out and newly separated veterans. From there, we move on to the value of family versus business, overcoming hardship, and the woes of the economy. Not to mention, the downsides of investing your entire identity into a business or single aspect of your life. This leads us into a detailed discussion of his time in the water feature and steel sculpture industry, where he was an award-winning designer.

From there, we move on toward the world of fitness, where Richard shares with us how he became one of the first personal trainers, before quickly opening up his own gym with a hardcore boot camp style of training, reminiscent of his time in the Marines. In turn, we end up discussing gym culture, along with the changes to it over the years. Richard and I discuss some of funny but sad interactions with others at the gym, as well as the different mindsets people can have when it comes to health, fitness, and training. Additionally, Richard shares the beauty of how he trained his son for the Navy Seals, and then the Marines.

Overall, the episode is a great time. Learning about Richard life is truly fascinating, from the seemingly impossible projects he took on as a water feature expert, to his modern quest of helping others achieve great success.
