Harris and Walz will sit down for first major television interview of their presidential campaign
SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) â Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, will sit down Thursday for their first major television interview of their presidential campaign as the duo travels in southeast Georgia on a bus tour.
The interview with CNNâs Dana Bash will give Harris a chance to quell criticism that she has eschewed uncontrolled environments, while also giving her a fresh platform to define her campaign and test her political mettle ahead of an upcoming debate with former President Donald Trump set for Sept. 10. But it also carries risk as her team tries to build on momentum from the ticket shakeup following Joe Bidenâs exit and last weekâs Democratic National Convention.
Joint interviews during an election year are a fixture in politics; Biden and Harris, Trump and Mike Pence, Barack Obama and Biden â all did them at a similar point in the race. The difference is those other candidates had all done solo interviews, too. Harris hasnât yet done an in-depth interview since she became her partyâs standard bearer five weeks ago, though she did sit for several while she was still Bidenâs running mate.
Harris and Walz are still introducing themselves to voters, unlike Trump and Biden of whom people had near-universal awareness and opinion.
The CNN interview is set to air at 9 p.m. EDT. It is scheduled to be taped at 1:45 p.m. EDT during her two-day bus tour through southeast Georgia that culminates with an evening rally in Savannah. Harris campaign officials believe that in order to win the state over Trump in November, she must make inroads in GOP strongholds across the state.
Harris, during her time as vice president, has done on-camera and print interviews with The Associated Press and many other outlets, a much more frequent pace than the president â except for Bidenâs late-stage media blitz following his disastrous debate performance that touched off the end of his campaign.
Harrisâ lack of media access over the past month has become one of Republicansâ key attack lines. The Trump campaign has kept a tally of the days she has gone by as a candidate without giving an interview and have suggested she needs a âbabysitterâ and thatâs why Walz will be there.
âDana Bash of CNN has a chance at greatness today. If she gave a fair but tough interview of Comrade Kamala Harris, she will expose her as being totally inept and ill suited for the job of President, much as I exposed Crooked Joe Biden during our now famous Debate,â Trump posted online Thursday. âHow cool would that be for Dana and CNN???â
Trump has largely steered toward conservative media outlets when granting interviews, though he has held more open press conferences in recent weeks as he sought to reclaim the spotlight that Harrisâ elevation had claimed.
After the CNN interview, Walz will peel off and Harris will continue the bus tour alone, heading to a rally before going back to Washington. On Wednesday, they sent time with a high school marching band to the delight of students, and stopped by a Savannah barbecue restaurant.
Harris campaign communications director Michael Tyler said bus tours offer an âopportunity to get to places we donât usually go (and) make sure weâre competing in all communities.â
The campaign wants the events to motivate voters in GOP-leaning areas who donât traditionally see the candidates, and hopes that the engagements drive viral moments that cut through crowded media coverage to reach voters across the country.
The stops are meant as moments where voters can learn ânot just what they stand for, but who they are as people,â Tyler said.
Harris has another campaign blitz on Labor Day with Biden in Detroit and Pittsburgh with the election just over 70 days away. The first mail ballots get sent to voters in just two weeks.
Democratsâ enthusiasm about their vote in November has surged over the past few months, according to polling from Gallup. About 8 in 10 Democrats now say they are more enthusiastic than usual about voting, compared with 55% in March.
This gives them an enthusiasm edge they did not have earlier this year. Republicansâ enthusiasm has increased by much less over the same period, and about two-thirds of Republicans now say they are more enthusiastic than usual about voting.

Oprah Winfreyâs âinfomercialâ interview of Kamala; Calvinist Pastor Steve Lawson resigns; Indonesian church denied building permit for decade
Itâs Monday, September 23rd, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. Iâm Adam McManus. ([email protected])

Indonesian church denied building permit for 10 years
For 10 long years now, the 600 members of Christ Congregation Millenium Peace Church have gathered on an empty plot of land in the Kartasura District in Indonesia to worship God. They set up a large tent to shield themselves from the scorching sun and lay mats down on the ground.
The Muslim-majority Indonesian government refuses to grant their request for a building permit to construct their desperately needed church building, reports International Christian Concern.
Pastor Ari Suksmono said the congregation purchased land 11 years ago and requested the permit the following year.
Despite the man-made obstacles, these believers recognize the truth of Psalm 96:4 which says, âFor great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods.â
Please pray that the Indonesian government would grant their request to build the sanctuary for Christ Congregation Millenium Peace Church.
Oprah Winfrey interviews Kamala Harris in campaign âinfomercialâ
Last Thursday, in a Town Hall meeting  called Unite for America that felt more like a Democratic infomercial, Oprah Winfrey interviewed Kamala Harris in Farmington Hills, Michigan, reported the New York Post.
Early on, an audience member asked about the open border.
AUDIENCE MEMBER #1: âWhat would be specific steps to strengthening the border?â
HARRIS: âSo, itâs a wonderful and important question. You know, my background was as a prosecutor, and I was also the elected Attorney General for two terms of a border state. So, this is not a theoretical issue for me. This is something Iâve actually worked on.â
AUDIENCE MEMBER #1: âRight.â
HARRIS: âI have prosecuted transnational criminal organizations for the trafficking of guns, drugs and human beings, I take very seriously the importance of having a secure border and ensuring the safety of the American people.â
Oddly enough, Kamala failed to talk about what she has done for the last three and a half years as Vice President and Bidenâs Border Czar.
According to the American Federation for Immigration Reform, the total number of illegal aliens encountered since Fiscal Year 2020 now stands at over 9.4 million. There are at least 16.8 million illegal aliens in the United States, as of the beginning of 2023, which has led to a skyrocketing rise in fentanyl deaths and illegal violent crime.
Kamala Harris sidesteps question on bad economy
Another audience member asked Kamala Harris about the economy.
AUDIENCE MEMBER #2: âWe are, like many young Americans, experiencing a very high cost of living. âŠOur mortgage is incredibly higher than what we thought it would be. We really would love to know what your plan is to help lower the cost of living.â
HARRIS: âYours is a story I hear around the country as I travel in terms of both rightly having the right to have aspirations and dreams and ambitions for your family and working hard and finding that the American Dream, for this generation and so many recently, far more elusive than itâs been. And we need to deal with that, and there are a number of ways. One is bringing down the cost of everyday necessities, including groceries.â
Under Kamala Harris, who has been Vice President for the last three and a half years, grocery prices are up 25% and inflation is up 17%. Forget about what her plan is for the next four years, she didnât do it in the last four years.
Kamala Harris in trouble with staff over saying she would use gun
On guns, Kamala surprised Oprah.
HARRIS:Â âIâm a gun owner. Tim Walz is a gun owner.â
WINFREY: âI did not know that.â
HARRIS: âIf they break in my house, theyâre probably going to get shot.â
WINFREY: âYes, yes. I hear that. I hear that.â
HARRIS: âSorry. Probably should not have said that. (laughs) but my staff will deal with that later.â (laughs)
Most Americans believe we have the right to defend ourselves and our property. Why would she be in trouble with her staff? Because Kamala Harris has advocated for gun-grabbing policies that violate the Second Amendment.
Kamala claims Founding Fathers driven by abortion and gay marriage
And, at the very end of the 90-minute infomercial for Kamala, Oprah asked this.
WINFREY: âWhat is on your heart to say to the American people, as we have 47 days until November 5? Whatâs on your heart to say to particularly those people who are still undecided or maybe indifferent or on the fence still?â
HARRIS: âI love our country. I know we all do. Thatâs why everybodyâs here right now. We love our country. We take pride in the privilege of being America. This is a moment where we can and must come together as Americans, understanding we have so much more in common than what separates us. Letâs come together with the character that we are so proud of about who we are, which is we are an optimistic people.
âAmericans, by character, are people who have dreams and ambitions and aspirations. We believe in what is possible. We believe in what can be, and we believe in fighting for that.
âThatâs how we came into being, because the people before us understood that one of the greatest expressions of patriotism is to fight for the ideals of who we are, which includes freedom to make decisions about your own body, freedom to be safe from gun violence, freedom to have access to the ballot box, freedom to be who you are and to love who you love openly and with pride, freedom to just be you.â
WINFREY: âmmmâ
Matt Walsh: Kamala Harris is ânonsensical and evil!â
Christian commentator Matt Walsh offered this analysis.
WALSH:Â âItâs nonsensical and vapid and quite verbose in the emptiest and most shallow way possible. But at the core of it, to the extent that sheâs saying anything at all, what sheâs saying is also twisted and evil.
âBecause the only parts that were intelligible were the parts where she says that America is built on abortion, gay marriage and gun confiscation â the three things that the founders of our country either specifically repudiated, in the case of gun confiscation, or, in the case of the other two, never repudiated because they were so unthinkable in those days they didnât need to be addressed. And certainly three things that are not rights enumerated in the Constitution, and yet these are the rights, the âfreedoms,â that Kamala Harris says the entire country is built on.
âNonsensical and evil!â
Reformed pastor Steve Lawson resigns over sin
And finally, a Texas pastor known for his fiery preaching and frequent appearances alongside John MacArthur has been removed from ministry after an alleged âinappropriate relationshipâ with an unidentified woman, reports The Christian Post.
Steve Lawson, the 73-year-old lead preacher at Trinity Bible Church of Dallas and a prominent figure in the Reformed/Calvinist Evangelicalism movement, informed the churchâs elders about the relationship, according to a statement released by the church.Â
Lawson, who holds a masters of theology from Dallas Theological Seminary and a doctorate from Reformed Theological Seminary, will no longer be compensated by Trinity Bible Church of Dallas.
The statement said, âSteve has confessed and regrets the damage he has caused to his family, the church, the reputation of OnePassion Ministries and most of all Jesus Christ. We are saddened for the glory of Christ in this matter.â
He formerly served as a teaching fellow at Ligonier Ministries and as the dean of Doctor of Ministry Studies at <a href="https://web.archive.orgâŠ

Tim Walz âMocks White Peopleâ in Cringe-Inducing Interview With Kamala Harris
Tim Walz has been accused of peddling racial stereotypes after telling Kamala Harris he cannot handle anything hotter than a âwhite guy tacoâ.
The Democratâs VP pick made the startling claim in a ten-minute chat between the pair posted to Harrisâs YouTube channel.
âHereâs the deal,â the told Minnesota Governor told her. âThey said to be careful and let her know this, that black pepper is the top of the spice level in Minnesota, you know?â
The Vice-President peeled away laughing from the exchange, but the deprecatory remarks left a nasty taste in some viewersâ mouths.
âThis isnât cute,â tweeted David Marcus of Fox News. âWalz is being used as a clown to mock white people.â
Harris may not have yet sat down for a press interview in the 26 days since Joe Biden dropped out of the race, but even her chat with Walz set some teeth on edge.
They faced each other over what appeared to be a card table at Arethaâs Jazz Cafe during a campaign stop in Detroit.
The pair were talking desultorily about food when the camera cut to a photo of the legendary black singer Aretha Franklin, and Walz was heard to mutter âI have white guy tacosâ.
âWhat does that mean? Like mayonnaise and tuna?â Harris replied.
âPretty much ground beef and cheese,â Walz confessed.
âThatâs okay. Do you put any flavor in it?â his boss asked reassuringly.
âUh, no,â he replied looking glum.
The personal chemistry which reportedly won Walz the pick over Pennsylvaniaâs Josh Shapiro sparked an unpleasant reaction in many watchers.
âItâs like a minstrel show lampooning white, Midwest stereotypes,â tweeted DC radio host Larry OâConnor.
âYou definitely like to spice up your military history,â spat @mazemoore, referencing the row over whether Walz exaggerated his record in the National Guard.
âItâs political theater,â sighed Danny Hellman. âTim Walz has to take a submissive role as the flavor-challenged boring White man next to Kamala Harrisâs spicy, pepper-growing multicultural girl boss.â
And the Governor also managed to offend some cultured palates in his own home state.
âI really like Tim Walz, but as someone who also really likes cooking with flavor, I will tell you that black pepper is far from the top spice level in Minnesota,â wrote Minnesotan journalist Brian Shea.
But no-one runs for the White House without having their background chewed over, and some were quick to accuse Walz of being disingenuous as well as mocking.
In 2014 the keen amateur cook won the who that yearâs Minnesota Congressional Delegation Hotdish Off with a recipe for Turkey Trot Tater Tot Hotdish featuring nothing hotter than an onion.
By the time he entered the dish for the contest two years later, it had gained both paprika and chili powder among its ingredients.
âWeird thing to lie about, but lying simply comes naturally to the man who lied about his DUI, lied about being a retired command sergeant major, lied about carrying weapons in war, and happily encouraged and promoted books and articles falsely claiming that he was a combat veteran,â wrote Jerry Dunleavy IV.
The bizarre exchange concluded with Harris claiming: âIâm the first vice president, I believe, who has ever grown chili peppers.â
âIâm trying to expand my food knowledge,â Walz pleads.
âYou know what?â Harris tells him. âWeâve got some cantaloupes. Youâll be fine.â
It did not take long for amateur historians to point out that Thomas Jefferson had grown chili peppers at his estate in Monticello.
âTheyâre leaning into White Dudes for Harris,â tweeted Richard Hanania. âIt says youâre sort of lame but secure enough to have a black female boss and still a good person.â
